“Humans live best when each has his place to stand.”
Frank Herbert, Heretics of Dune
We function best in orderly systems. That is to say, when each day looks different than the next, it is hard to pick up a rhythm and momentum—much of our effort is spent in managerial affairs as opposed to accomplishing what we really want to.
As such—we must strike to create systems and orders out of the environment around us. Concretely, this means stocking the fridge with healthy foods, keeping our laptop empty of all windows save the one directly pertinent to the work at hand. Phone tucked away in the drawer. A written schedule of how our time will be spent. On and on, incremental steps to minimize distraction that, in the longterm, snowball to produce great feats of action.
